Bunyonyi Birdnest Lodge is a luxury and best accommodation situated in the southwestern part of Uganda on the shores of Lake Bunyony. It is just 30 minutes from Kabale town to the lodge. You can be at the lodge by road transport or air transport. Its approximately 8- 9hour drive (450kmsquared) from Kampala City to the lodge by bus, and 1 hrs from Entebbe to Kihihi or kisoro airstrip by Aerolink. Kihihi is the closest airstrip in Bwindi National Park areas. It also takes 4 hour drive from Kigali City to the lodge. The lake has a maximum depth of 900 meters and it is considered to be the fourth deepest lake Africa. The lake was formed 10,000 years ago through the process of formation as a result of the lava flow that emerged from one of the Virunga mountains and managed to occupy the Ndego river. Lake bunyonyi has over 29 islands like Bushara island, Akampene island, Kyahungye, Bwama, and Bucuranuka islands and surrounded by a few terraced hillsides. Lake bunyonyi is the place of many little birds situated in the south western part of Uganda between two districts kabale and kisoro close Rwanda borders. Most people in Lake Bunyonyi are Both Bakiga and Bafumbira.
