Ziwa Rhino Sanctuary
Ziwa Rhino Sanctuary
Ziwa Rhino Sanctuary the home to the wild rhinos at Nakitoma trading centre in Nakasongola district is situated 176km (100 miles) north of Kampala the capital city of Uganda on Kampala-Gulu highway short way to Murchison Falls National Park. This is the best destination for rhino tracking of the fact that it’s always done on foot for clear, memorable and adventurous spots.
By the end of 1982, rhinos were pretty much extinct in Uganda because they had been endlessly poached and killed. Ziwa Rhino Sanctuary is not a zoo, it is a sanctuary where these white type of Rhinos can move around in safety. They are protected all day and night from poachers by an electrical fence and security personnel.
The introduction of the ziwa sanctuary is a project of the Rhino Fund Uganda that fostered the restoration of the rhinos in Uganda. There are 21 white rhinos as of 2017 and these highly attract tourists from different countries for the rhino tracking activity.
Of the fact that rhino tracking is done on foot, tourists are briefed and given guideline by a sanctuary ranger since they will be allowed to move close to the rhinos for a memorable experience and an unusual photo moments as you encounter with different rhinos.

Uganda Birding Tour 14 Days
A Uganda Birding Safari like no otherSituated at the equator, Uganda enjoys a tropical climate with very little temperature variation throughout the year. If you are planning a trip to Uganda as a birder, the main factor determining your timing will be a pattern of rainfall. In the southern part of the country, the wettest month is April with the rainy season stretching from April to May and October to November. The wet season in the North is from April to October with the rest of the year fairly dry with low humidity. Whilst travelling might be easier in the dry season, bear in mind the fact that bird activity is much higher during the wetter months when most of the breeding takes place.
Birds that may be seen - The birds listed below are birds that occur along the route at various times of the year. As with any trip, one cannot guarantee that every bird mentioned will be seen.
