Democratic Republic of Congo is not only the second largest country in Africa, but a great tourist destination too. It contributes the second highest amount of oxygen to the planet next to the Amazon forest. It is referred to as the second lung of Earth.
Congo is one of the only three countries where you can see mountain gorillas. Congo gorillas are found in Virunga National Park Goma; apparently the oldest national park in Africa. The Virunga gorilla trekking experience is awesome and much different from the Uganda and Rwanda gorilla trekking experience. The park itself is big and offers stunning scenic views as you trek your way to search for the gorillas.
Besides the mountain gorillas, Congo also has the lowland gorillas and these can be found in Kahuzi Biega National Park in Bukavu. The trek to see the lowland gorillas is a bit easy because they live in lowland areas unlike mountain gorillas that live in mountainous areas.
Another great experience you should not miss out on whilst on your Congo safaris in hiking Mount Nyiragongo. This mountain is one of the most dangerous active volcanoes in the whole world. Its lava lake has become a big tourist attraction that so many tourists want to see.
